1. Windows System32 Rundll32 Exe

Hello, I was having the same issues with rundll32.exe using a lot of my CPU usage. Here is what was causing my issues.

I am running Windows 8.1 Update in a Parallels VM. After about 5 minutes of inactivity, a rundll32.exe process is spawned and consumes a. I am running Windows 8.1 Update in a Parallels VM. Step One: I downloaded Process Explorer. This is an excellent tool. It is similar to Task Manager but goes into way more depth on the processes and dlls that are running. I extracted the download and then ran Process Explorer as an administrator.

Step Two: One of the first things I noticed was rundll32.exe was using 23 percent of my CPU again.

I right-clicked on the rundll32.exe process and selected properties. I clicked on the Image tab and at once saw the culprit. A utility to monitor and gauge my battery usage, called PwrMgrBkGndMonitor, was draining my battery instead of saving it.

Step Three: After a little digging around in my installed programs I located a program called Lenovo Settings Dependency Package. PwrMgrBkGndMonitor was installed in the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package.

I didn’t use this program and decided I didn’t need it. I uninstalled the program and restarted my laptop. I haven’t had a problem with the rundll32.exe using up my CPU since I uninstalled Lenovo Settings Dependency Package.

If you are experiencing the same symptoms has stated above and you are running a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1, this may be your issue. However, before you uninstall the program I would recommend using Process Explorer. Process Explorer will help you determine the exact program that is giving you issues before blindly uninstalling and killing services. I'm using Windows 8.1.

Currently, I set Window update to: Never check for updates (not recommended)

I realize that the rundll32.exe & wicainventory.exe slow my computer down (it both uses 100% disk usage, especially, rundll32.exe use 100% Memory (up to 3GB)) after I install an add-on (HLSL Tools) for my Visual Studio 2015 (maybe it's a co-incident).

Anyway, here's how rundll32.exe & wicainventory.exe slow down my PC.

Stage 1: rundll32.exe uses a lot of my PC memory (3GB) & disk usage (100%). At this time, wicainventory.exe doesn't use much of my PC resource. In another word, rundll32.exe is abnormal, wicainventory.exe is normal.

Stage 2: After a while, rundll32.exe doesn't use much of my PC resource. But this time, wicainventory.exe use a lot my my PC resource - It makes my disk usage up to 100%. In another word, rundll32.exe is normal, wicainventory.exe is abnormal.

Stage 3: After a while, my PC back to normal. (rundll32.exe is normal, wicainventory.exe is normal).

This (stage 1,2,3) happens repeatedly on my PC (about a few day it happens again). When this happens, I can't play game so it really annoying.

This could be wicainventory.exe installs something on my PC behind my back. Is there anyway to find out what it is doing behind my back.
